Do Named Baddies Spawn Multiple Times?
Hello all, I've almost gotten to Oree. Anyhow, I really like my character but am getting tired of killing whip mistresses, orc generals, and elder archmages all the time. I read somewhere on this board that if you get powerful enough named baddies will keep spawning just like regular monsters. I even dug myself a "track" out of GC11 after killing everything and did about 10 laps around it waiting for a powerful named baddie to spawn. No such luck. Anyone ever have a named baddie spawn twice?

Err... Named baddies can only spawn once. When you get more powerful there's more chance for them to spawn but that's all.

um, Freelance, what are your character's stats?

Z- 06-26-2006

Each of them appears only once. And if it has already appeared on some other level, and you did not notice it, it will not appear on GC 11.

My stats are: Astr: 400 LStr: 400 Dex: 21 Agi: 20 End: 17 Per: 24 Int: 97 Wis: 95 Cha: 9 HP: 1480 This is not Wizard mode. I just used all the usual "exploits," liking eating chests made of ommel cerumen. How hard would it be to change the allow and allow named baddies to spawn over and over? It's just a frequency problem, right? Instead of "spawn only once," you should be able to change it to "spawn n times," right?

More like hunt them down in the script files and remove a tag. I think that would do it. In fact, it's quite simple. Let's just say you want Rondol to no longer be "unique": 1. Open "IVAN/Script/char.dat". 2. Find (via ctrl-F or whatever means you like) Rondol. (Technically, Rondol is a Patriarch, but names will work as well.) 3. Locate the line that says "IsUnique = true;". 4. Remove it. And viola. Rondol will become a spawnable monster. By the way, in case anyone was interested, Rondol appears to have intrinsic 20 fire, electricity, and energy resistance. No acid or poison resistance, however. So throwing potions of sulpheric acid at him might be a good idea if you're not worried about his gear.

Hey Atomic, Thanks a BUNCH! I'm gonna' have loads of fun once I get home. In response to the "I shouldn't abuse my stats" remark: I didn't do this until the end of the game cause I was getting tired of having my limbs fall off every 5 seconds because of leprosy. Therefore I just used a few change material scrolls to keep the leprous zombies at bay. It actually took some doing to kill the named baddies which first showed up (the skeleton dude and the ruby halberd dude). You are right that overloaded stats makes things a bit less fun. That's why I'm gonna' go up against 5 Sherarix's!

I've already made all the baddies un-unique. I'll let you know how my trophy-collecting goes when I get home. Thanks again, dude!

Is it possible to add Lobh-Se the behemoth spider to the line-up? Also, is it possible to create your own monsters?

dalboz- 06-27-2006

one, unless you have good enough coding skills, you can't make much changes to the game. you might want to look in the programming area. two, don't triple post, use the "edit" button.

I made all the named baddies common creatures last night, but the only one which would consistently spawn was Ishie. Perhaps certain named baddies only spawn within a certain danger level.

dalboz- 06-28-2006

you're too powerful for the other "weaker than izzy" baddies to spawn.

Atomic- 06-28-2006

By the way, you do know how to get rid of leprosy right?

Freelance Bezerker- 06-29-2006

That sux that I'm too powerful. I was hoping the baddies would gang up on me or something. I had Izzy and Golgor Dhan spawn on the same level once, but eventually managed to kill them both--that was FUN. I know that you can get leprosy healed in town or via an antidote. It's just that everytime I drink an antidote, some mummy comes up to me and infects me again!

which is why the devs should add some leprosy-resisting gear in the next version.
