 Words aren't enough... How much time did you spend doing this?? Anyway, thx, nice guide.

John Holmes- 08-13-2005

I spent around two hours in the middle of the night making that guide. I was feeling mighty untired and decided to do something useful with my time. Actually I had been planning that guide for quite some time, and only now I got around to do it. And with my usual luck, a new version will come out tomorrow with all the old named monsters replaced with new ones. That would be mighty unpleasant.

unknown_entity- 08-13-2005

And mighty hilarious :P Anyways, so the giant spider is going to have it's own side area?

John Holmes- 08-14-2005

All signs point to yes. It is a 2x2 monster, which means that it would be destroying the level as it moves, and if it can be randomly spawned it can really mess up some levels. So far no 2x2 monster is randomly spawned due to the fact that they would eventually eat the level and mine it for the player free of cost, possibly revealing hidden vaults and other things that are not supposed to be found that easily.. There would also be some other difficulties with a randomly spawned 2x2 monster. And the unused line for Kaethos describing Lobh-Se highly suggest that it has it's own lair. Personally I think that would be a nice idea. A spider-level would bring some nice variety to the game. My bet is that it might be similar to the UT4, or perhaps even the UT4 as Kaethos suggests that Lobh-Se lives in the underwater tunnels. I bet she might have a level of her own in the next version.

Now all we need is a 3x3 dragon :P That would rock...but it would be extremely complicated unless it's lair was just one big room.

Revenant- 08-15-2005

I think there already is a image for that... or is it 2x2? And yes, a spider level would be very cool! It could be like the zombie level, they could respawn forever...

SquashMonster- 08-15-2005

They could respawn in hatches like real spiders too. So you would have to attack their egg sacks to stop having so many spiders swarming you. And what would be even cooler than a 3x3 dragon would be a dragon that took up a non-rectangular amount of space. Like, the tail could move from tile to tile and such. Though that'd probably be way too much work for the poor devs.

John Holmes- 08-15-2005

If you look through the files at the graphics folder, you can spot a dragon, an adult mammoth, a huge serpent, a car (possibly a Lada), a steam engine of some sort, a panda, two non-two-headed mooses, an AK-47, a sling, an arrow, something that looks like a ghost-busters device, an atomic bomb and many more. So I can only imagine what will be in the next version :D

Captain Action- 08-15-2005

You here a *thump* and look down. You(and most of the dungeon) are ripped apart atom by atom. You die.

unknown_entity- 08-15-2005

That would rock...Atomic land mines of doom. That would be interesting if there was a dragon type enemy where each body part took up a space. Then you could take it down bit by bit.

blob- 08-16-2005

It would be interesting if you could take down ANY monsters bit by bit. I find it very frustrating to always have to slowly destroy all the HP of bears and bulls. When i have some mjolak in hand i 'd like to be able to see limbs flying whatever shit i'm fighting !

unknown_entity- 08-16-2005

Yeah, they need to implement a limb system for all creatures...Mainly because I want to make a character with bear legs and hedgehog arms.

blob- 08-16-2005

Unfortunately it wont be possible. Limbs have to be at a precise spot in the sprites to be possible to cut and creatures are very different by size and forms.

SquashMonster- 08-17-2005

The game already loads the positions of arms and legs from the data files -- this would just require separate entries for left and right limb, a bunch of extra graphics tiles, and either a restriction on using animal limbs on the wrong creature or another entry and graphic for the humanoid version of the limb. It'd be work, but mostly tedius rather than hard. Then again, I've no clue how deeply embeded the limb system is into the game, and I know I wouldn't really want to go through all that work myself, so I doubt the devs would be too keen on the idea.

John Holmes- 08-17-2005

Personally I'm against the idea of animals having severable limbs. Do you know how hard it is to severe an arm of a bear? Well, neither do I but I bet it's rather hard. Then again, you can severe arms of valpurium golems, so I guess everything is possible.
