Look in the help. Its called discovery mode i think. might be something like Ctrl + X

you can, provided that you are a mole or something. and activating Nethack's wizmode seems to have something to do with adding a word or two to the name of the EXE.

I think that you activate Nethack's wizmode by naming your character "wizard". Yet another hypothesis...

what ? no way, im sure its not a secret thing. I ve tried to get it , but i remember the game would propose me to go in that mode because i had made the wrong commande. WTH eating rings :s wow this trick can make of you a super hero.

nah, you have to be really lucky if you want to be turned into a metal-eating monster. think about all the times you got turned into a plant by a wand of polymorph.

Yeah. Well i remember pretty well that i ve been transformed far too many times into a lichen or a stupid shrieker. Its just the end of all hope. And you re not only immobile, you re also blind. At least you cant see the bastard coming slowly to you ,turn after turn, to inevatibly kick your ass, while you hope for the end of the transformation. But its not too hard to be a metal eating monster. You just need a ring / wand of polymorph and a ring of polymorph control that you can wish for. Wishes are very often found in the gnome town at the lamp merchant.

is that so? I don't get much wishes, and when I do get one, I'm probably too suprised to think much about what I should wish for.

I always just get a scroll of change material. Oh, wrong game. Bah, nethack.

I've had a game (IVAN) before that has this fountain that gave me three freed spirits (wishes) before it dried up. used them for: amulet of life saving SOCM x2

I registered just for this.. hmm. In Nethack, Ctrl+X enables Explorer more (or Discovery mode, the name varied in some versions) which just means that you're immortal ("You die? y/N"), but there is a Wizard mode, too. IIRC it's activated by starting the game with "nethack -D" AND naming your character "wizard". In addition to immortality, this enables some cool new controls, like wishing (Ctrl+W, I think) and such. I'm at work, so I can't test it right now, but with this it would be easy to wish for a ring of polymorph control and a wand of polymorph, polymorph yourself to a rust monster or something else that eats metal and eat the wand. In case someone wants to try.. So, for example for you Windows users: Start -> Run -> "C:\Nethack\nethack.exe -D" (remember: a capital D) Name: wizard
