Hmm. I think it would've been foolish to lie about a creature which anyone could check the name of in the .dat files. But I'm gratified to know that you know I'm not a liar :D . What I meant to ask was, has anyone else had the same experience of veteran dwarves not dying from their own explosions, or is it just because of my character level?

me too. they just go "BOOOOM" and all that's left of them afterwards is a pile of limbs and dwarf flesh. and a book.

That is pretty funny when you think about it. The dwarf and everything else goes (except in my game), but the book doesn't even get touched!

I've always found books on dwarf corpses.

Me too, even when my character was relatively unpowerful.

I'm not certain, I don't recall finding books after being boomed by a suicide dwarf.
