Totally unprepared, and already hurt
I need some help! I was on GC 1, and had low stats, and i decided to have a drink from a fountain, I take one sip and suddenly i'm on GC 5, at first i thought this was a good thing, untill i took a step, and heard a booming voice, my potion of vodka, my potion of water, and my lantern shatter, and also i'm badly damaged. Now can you please help me to get out alive.

That baddie isn't all that bad. Just grab a lantern, since yours has been shattered, and head for the stairs as soon as possible. If you let that noisemaker get close to you, your definitely dead (the sonic damage it does increases in direct proportion to close it is to you). Do you know any god that you can pray to? You might luck out and be able to call down an angel to fry that muthas ass.

I know he isn't that hard but i'm in a corridor and have no idea where the stairs are, a lantern is, or where the Enner beast is (i guess he is close by the amount of damage he did). I know the gods Valpurus and Scabies, and i am just a little lawful.

The only way you'll make it out of this one alive that I can think of is to pray to Scabies (who'll probably be pissed at you) and hope you polymorph into something good, then find and make a run for the stairs. Quickest way to find the stairs is to use a Detect Material scroll and type in granite. Also, don't mess with fountains in the GC until you're sure you can handle that sort of enemy. I learned that the hard way, same as you.

Ok, i just relised where the enner beast is, only like 8 steps away from me. I do know that drinking from fontains can be bad news, but i thought one sip couldn't hurt.

Make you wear a ring of polymorth control next time. It improves your chances of getting stuff instead of bad.

Just blast the soprano with a few striking bolts. he'll be dead in no time.

So there you go, well-sipper. I hope you have a wand of lightning bolts handy, or have prayed and either gotten a guardian angel or been polymorphed into something kickass.

Unless you have MASSIVE intelligence (or have some use for the weaker creatures), PolyControl is useless. I've never found any benefit from using it without the Ommel Cerumen exploit. It takes about the same INT to become a valpurium golem as it does to make something into valpurium, for instance. Without PolyControl, it's the luck of the draw.

I hope you have a wand which fires some kind of projectile then, dude.

I have a wand of acid rain and i do have a ring of PolyControl, and when i prayed to Scabies and she inflicted me with leprosy. My intelligence is about 12.

This post may be a somewhat spoily! I must disagree with Mattitude. PolyControl is quite vital in several situations, for instance if you have lycanthropy (you can choose whether to transform), if you drink from a fountain very low in the dungeon (instadeath is near if you polymorph into a hedgehog in GC8) or if you fight Elpuri with a polymorph wand somewhere at the bottom of your chests. Getting in the meteoric steel vault and collecting lots of natural jewels are also easy tasks if you can polymorph into a ghost. Polymorphing into something more intelligent (remember that New Attnamese "natives" are all highly overeducated) before using certain scrolls is also a good idea. Btw, has anyone ever tried successive polymorphing, polymorphing to a more intelligent monster after another? I suppose you can change anything into anything or polymorph into anything (for cloning purposes) using this tactic, if you know enough creatures and have enough charges in your poly wand.

I think i'll try to do right now. (10 mins later) from what i can tell it does work, just you have to know which monster is smarter.
