The Cube- 08-01-2005

Well, in my first game, I ate a zombie and my left arm fell off. So I ate that too. Then I got poisoned when I ate a spider and vomited myself to death trying to get it out. And that was about 2 hours ago. Next game, I'm up against, like, 5 giant mushrooms, and I'd just recently acquired a wand of fireball. Being the brilliant guy I am, I used it point blank. And exploded. This did manage to kill the mushrooms (and my dog), but strangely I survived. I was panicked for a while, though, until I figured out how to sit. I was also covered in blood until I died at the hands of those damned carnivorous plants. I suppose that's not too gory, but I still find it hilarious.

I had plenty of humiliating deaths when I first started, mainly caused by me not knowing that corpses were edible. Once I learned that, things got much easier ;)

Okay, new death. I finally beat the damned plant on level 3. Both my legs are slightly wounded, but nothing serious. I head a little south and encounter a brown slime. I kill it, no big deal. Then, seemingly for no reason, both of my legs fall off. So, I pray to the only god(dess) I know of...the nature one whose name I forget. She gives me an amethyst leg which, you've gotta admit, is pretty damned kickass (no pun intended). So I'm hopping around on one gemstone leg, and I decide I should go up a floor to rest. I go up, rest a while, and pray again to the same goddess. She turns me into a rat. So, I sit for a while trying to not be a rat, and as soon as I change back, a dark frog comes in for seemingly no reason, rips off both my arms, and bites me in the groin until I die. That fucking sucked.

MY VIRGIN EARS! Im just kidding. I couldn't resist ;) I think that the bursts of electricity from mystic dark frogs are a little overpowered. My character was superbly armored and died after 2.

Worst death... Playing around with a character named Maune, he trecked deep into the first cave... reached the boss plant, and had his ass kicked badly... He retreated to the previous level to recap the situation (poor guy was panicked!) and that's when leperacy took in... After both arms and a leg fell off, he finally summoned the aid of the health god and had an arm reattached... which was handy, because a snake decided to round the corner at that time... He delt with the snake but lost his other leg in the battle... broken and pretty much defeated, his only hope lied at the village of New Attanam, where the healer could reattach his limbs and cure his lepracy... But by the time he reached UT 1, he was starving and fainting. He ate everything he could, but it wasn't enough... his only way of survival was to consume his own limbs... He ate his right leg... yes, evil, I know, but he made it half way there... he ate his other arm (left I believe)... a little more strength! He made it to New Attanam! But... he was starving, and after passing out 3 times, he finally decided to eat his left leg... but the snake he lost it to left a present. Maune, the poor human, died from poison left in his left leg from the snake, 3 spaces from the healer... Ouch...

That was truly an awesome death. *Bows*

Atomic- 08-03-2005

I agree. That was nice.

John Holmes- 08-04-2005

Hyaaargh. I just experienced the most frustrating death ever. I had a pretty lucky game, got a lot of wishes early on, two wands of cloning, had over 15 scrolls of change material. I did the cerumen trick, made my gear valpurium/eagle feather, limbs phoenix feather, made my way to GC 7, had killed Goldor and Rondol. Xinroch had died from the enner beast. A hattifatterner killed the mystic frog on GC 7. I'm about to move to GC 8, doing some final mopping up. Then, a kamikaze dwarf shows up. No big deal, they couldn't damage me. It exploded. I polymporphed into a lame calcite golem. ... A giant dark frog ate my family jewels. This is the last time I'm forgetting to put my lame wands into the lame box I had with me that I had put in all my other lame wands. 42537 John Holmes, killed by a giant dark frog's dirty attac below the belt while polymorphed into a calcite golem in gloomy cave level 7 I hate this game This game rocks.

That's terrible! You had a real shot at winning too! Without polycontrol I never even walk near polymorph wands.

Atomic- 08-06-2005

Why do dark frogs always seem to make nutshots on you?

Billybridgeman- 08-06-2005

Not really another death like before but a noteworthy happening. Forget what level, GC2 or 3, my latest character Rox was happily marching down a wide corridor. Two kamakaze dwarfs came round the corner (the gods didn't like Rox). as he turned to run he heard a certain *click* as one of them stepped on a land mine. He couldn't believe they took each other down with the blasts, was so lucky! Then he saw something shoot across the room, towards him. "Just a leg" he thought. OOFFF! Looking down, the leg had flown and knocked off HIS leg, which was weakened by lepracy. .... unfortunately, I can't prove this >.< by the time I had noticed his leg was missing the chat log had already filled up past where I could check, and when I returned, that's where I found Rox's leg with the noted dwarf leg. It might have fallen of by lepracy, but even if it did, the timing was just right... I'll probably fill in later when Rox kicks the bucket.

(the one & only) Xeth- 08-06-2005

In one of my games I got a great start: won the sumo fight, got two holy bananas, four carrots, many stat ups from fountains, tamed a elite guard sold/equiped everything he had and killed him, awsome equipment, made friends with the lawful gods. Then I got to GC 3 with my army of angels and bob the slave. I stopped at a fountain in hopes of getting my stats higher. the fountain, for some reason didn't like me (I might have said things about it's mother while drunk) and so it tossed me into GC 7. At first the only thought in my head was how screwed over I was, Then I remembered about my wand of cloning and desided to create a army of me. The wand had four charges, making a pretty kick-ass army, so then all of me (with me leading) when out of the room we were in to massarce anything that moves. a few steps later I turned at a hallway, where out of nowhere I notice that i'm now dead, so I look at my logs and see something about getting hit with a massive burst of lighting... ow... Xeth, killed by the spells of a mystic dark frog in gloomy cave level 7

Atomic- 08-06-2005

hahaha. That sucks. I love the whole limb-severing thing. Any time I come accross a severed (non-zombie) head, I keep it. I don't know why. Maybe I'm just morbid like that. By the way, Xeth... you weren't terribly lawful, were you? I mean, you were, but, you kinda... befriended a guardsman, than robbed him blind and murdered him in cold blood. That's just not nice.

OK, perhaps not a *gruesome* death, but a frustrating one in any case. Promising character. Taught him how to use maces with an ommel bone mace found on UT1, learned shields from a heavy metal one. Decent armor, chain mail; never found a CoFR though, which sucked. Had to rely on rings. Which might be what ended up killing me. In the UT shop I found Turox. Much mining and polypiling later, I had the cash for it, so I bought it. By now my old mace was gone, and I had found a helm of understanding, an ommel tooth plate mail, and an oak shield. I had taken to one ring of FR, and one of Tele control, with an amulet of ESP (I had already found and used two AoLS... one within 3 steps of putting it on. Big mines hurt.) Now, with an enchanted Turox and ommel tooth mail, I felt *set*. Rondol ate it quick, the Enner took two hits once I managed to get to him. The only bad thing about Turox' explosions was the smoke it made was a bit annoying. My armor spoiled, but right about then Atavus gave me his plate mail to wear. Not even close to as good, but I took it. My stats were rockin'. 16 or 17 nat ASTR, with ommel hair gaunts of STR +3; same thing going on with my legs, except 21 or 22 base and +5. 15 base dex, which was dropped to 13 by my armor. Plenty of skillz with my mace and shield. Champion of Seges. Go down from Enner's level, into the zombie level, and start, well, leveling the place. Everything takes one hit, and that which doesn't dies from the resultant explosion. Then Dulcis gets jelous of Seges and sends a veteran kamikazie dwarf to blow me up. Which he does, quite well... :( I dodged the legs, at least... Oh, also, throughout the game I kept the heads of my beheaded enemies in a box, with my wands, scrolls, potions, and other crap... Only got two though: a kobold and a goblin prince...

Orb Of Fire- 08-07-2005

Ok, here's one. A while back I had another promising character reach dark level, only to meet Sherarax right next to the stairs. The poor guy had both his arms cut off before being able to act, and it was all downhill from there... Anyway, this got saved as a bones file. So the other day I got another promising character to dark level, only to have /his/ arms cut off by Sherarax, with a ghost attacking him at the same time. As anyone who's been in this situation knows, without arms you can't zap wands or apply anything, and the gods aren't of any help since all they do is try to regrow your arms. And trying to run from Sherarax (invisible and probably hasted, no less) is pointless.
