Hello,
I've been enjoying your game for about week. It's pretty hard, so I've resulted to backing up my saves. I had built
up a pretty good character this time, and was relishing a rematch with the whip lady when the game crashed
when I tried to take the stairs from GC2 to GC3.
Please tell me how I can send you my save file. Thanks. |

don't back the saves, as it is probably why your game crashed. _________________ "Think like a madman" |

I did not check this, but I also think that this is because you back up saves. I don't think it ever happened to me. I think you probably backed up your saves incorrectly (i.e. not all of it) and that's why it crashed. Or maybe you met your own ghost, and the game is not suited for this unexpected behavior.
(Also note that the developers are not active currently.)
[OT] It could make a weird story: a world where some characters have the superhero power of savescumming, giving them outwordly knowledge and luck, but sometimes causing them to meet their own ghosts... _________________ 3D mode, screenshots and my other IVAN stuff |

You're probably right. I searched on the forums for a solution and found one post where a dude had a similar problem. The devs told him to start a new game with a character named "X," enter New Attnam, execute wizard mode, quit, and then rename X's file as the name of his previous character. I tried this method, but it didn't work--probably because the devs solution was for a previous version.
I also tried something really weird. I kept the WMA file and the .sav file, and replaced everything in between with stuff from a save for the same character way back. The game let me go down the stairs, but once I reached a level where my character was present during a former save, I ended up with two characters which were fully controllable!
The control was somewhat staggered. I would move one space with my original character, one space with my former character, one space with my original character, two spaces with my former character, and then repeat! The problem was that when one of these two died, the whole game ended. The game also crashed when trying to make a bones file. Who knows, maybe someone can use this to jury-rig a "party-based IVAN."
Anyhow, I've started a new game since, with incredible luck: 3 whips of thieving on the first level, a +5 bronze helmet, and skeletons which drop -2 dragon hide boots! I also found a broken Turox on the next level! Needless to say, I save-scummed this gem, and am glad I did because I got attacked by 2 giant frogs shortly after I saved. |

BTW, when I was playing with two of the same character, the text was pretty interesting:
<going down stairs>: "You follow You." |

You almost created "Ivan 2 -tactics"
That could be quite awesome to attack attnam with a team of 7 heroes. hehehe. Too bad there's this bug when you move Two times your former character in a row. |

Whoa! I gotta try that sometime, that is incredible!

Ah, if only it was multiplayer... Imagine the possibilities...
"Atomic is party leader"
"Atomic walks up to Richel Decos"
"Blob follows"
"chaostrom follows"
"Atomic kicks Richel Decos in the groin!"
"chaostrom kicks Richel Decos"
"Blob kicks Richel Decos in the head!"
"Richel Decos' head is severed off!"
"Richel Decos dies without a sound"

Something is messed up there, if you ask me... No way should skeletons have anything as good as dragon hide.

I like that part. 8)
Dont mess with flabby cave bears.
However. Isnt there some Rogue like multiplayer already existing that we, the ivan team, could play together ? I'm no playing MUD, too abstract to me. Was wondering if we could give a try to wyvern though i heard it was shitty. I think its some kind of MMO roguelike.
The only other multiplayer dungeon crawler i know is chocobo dungeon 2 which is on PSX and is extremely limitated in terms of gameplay for the 2nd player. |

for all I know, any multiplayer roguelike availible now isn't very good. Crossfire is currently the best one there is. _________________ "Think like a madman" |

I tried to replicate my "two-of-the-same-character" glitch yesterday and got it working again.
Both characters react with other physically and are even able to attack each other. When I kick myself, the computer says "this may cause a hostile reaction. Continue? (Y/N)." This is the standard line given for attacking an NPC, except that when I do press the attack, it becomes the "other Me's" turn. I tried dropping equipment from one "me" for the other "me," to use, but this is where the program broke down. Both Mes could see the equipment on the ground, but only the one who dropped it could handle it physically. The other me would SEE the equipment, but when he moved on top of it to claim it, the program would say there was nothing to pick up.
Anyhow, interesting quirk. |

this is either a bug worth fixing (and by that I mean to make it possible for one to control 2+ chars without bugs), or a reason to make IVAN into a multiplayer roguelike. _________________ "Think like a madman" |

| It'll be kewl if someone wrote a utility which would allow you to add on independent dungeons that modders have made (kind of like Neverwinter Nights). I've been playing IVAN for about a month now, but can see that I'll get bored pretty soon. It's a shame the devs aren't active. Such a nice game. Hate to see it go the way of ADOM. From what I remember the dude who programmed ADOM even got an offer from some company to take it commercial. Too bad he didn't. |

I'm glad most roguelikes are freeware; even if there was a commercial roguelike for sale, I wouldn't buy it. _________________ "Think like a madman" |

| I just liked ADOM so much I was disappointed to see it stagnate for so long. I would've payed 9.99 for a commercial version. |
