I fondly remember playing the first Ultima games back in the day, when your characters didn't even have icons for weapons. What really made the game satifying back then was the SOUND. If you missed a creature, you would hear this incredibly disappoint swoosh. If you hit, a shield would materialize over the creature hit and you'd hear this resounding "Whack!" It was like making a 3-point shot from the other side of the basketball court.
How hard would it be to add simple sounds to IVAN?
One other thing I enjoyed doing was substituting lame voices for war grunts or other battle-keyed noises in CPRGs which had simple sound effects. Made the whole effect more campy.

i guess you meant to Ivan. However, i have no idea how hard it is to do but, if anyone think its possible i am willing to make some sounds instead of taking them away from games. I love to do that ^^
"Whack!" heheh... i loved that sound in ultima 4. There was so much suspens each time i'd use the so powerful sling |

| Those were the days when story was all and the graphics really didn't matter. Nowadays game companies try to foist off bug-ridden, story-devoid-albeit-graphically superior stuff for a high price. |

Eh? Graphics matter?
Only to the idiots that play CS, or those obnoxious kids that imitate FPS Doug. _________________ FROG BLAST THE VENT CORE!

well, you can't say graphics don't matter, but gameplay is much more important. _________________ "Think like a madman" |

| I'm satisfied with just a "R" for Red Dragon, as long as the story and gameply keeps me engaged. |

To add sounds, you need two things:
The sounds themselves.
You need to program the game to play them. You have to use some library (I think SDL_mixer would be good, since IVAN already uses SDL), and programming it should not be very hard (just initialize it, and add appropriate playSound function calls where appropriate). _________________ 3D mode, screenshots and my other IVAN stuff |
