|
|
Fellow IVANers,
This was originally a topic spawned from Blob's Fanart threat. HolyBanana mentioned that characters could achieve permanent invisibility sometimes by zapping themselves with wands of invisibility 10 times. This piqued the interest of a few posters, and now we are interested in what other states can be made permanent and how. Please post your IVAN experiences with acquired permanent states to this thread from now on. Thank you. |

| Hmm yeah quite long. Only times i got such long effects was from fountain. Got polymorphisis 2 times ( that s horrible. Your character is already dead except if you get poly control ) and invisibility once. I guess you could also get haste from that. |

| I'm mainly interested in getting permanent states. I already have a ring of invisibility and a Saathul, but if I can acquire an innate state, I can free up one slot for something else! |

Somewhat of a spoiler.
I believe you can get any state except polymorphed, life saved or searching as intrinsic due to an unintentional feature. This is because permanence is represented in the game by setting the state counter to 65535 ticks (roughly 32.8 hours). If you can boost your counter over this, when it drops back to 65535, the state is permanent and can only be removed by magical means, for instance eating grey unicorn flesh. I have gotten permanent teleport control in a real game twice by eating a horde of blink dogs. |

Is there any way to determine how many ticks an effect has left? _________________ FROG BLAST THE VENT CORE!

The number you have just quoted looks suspiciously similar to the XP I gain when my character first acquire level 65 in any weapon skill. This would explain why none of my weapon skills ever experience skill decay after hitting 65. That's awesome, HB. |

| Think so. You gotta' love this unintentional feature while it lasts, since weapon skill decay sets in so quickly in IVAN. |

| I think the devs are going to take it out. It obviously allows powerplayers to take advantage of the game. Enjoy it while you can. |

Nah, I think we are going to leave it. I see nothing bad about it. We might modify that number 65535 though, it's so arbitrary. I don't remember why it was chosen, probably because at some point we allocated only 16 bits for state counters and 65535 is the highest number you can represent this way (2^16-1).
On the other hand, the weaponskill bug has been fixed already, as mentioned elsewhere. |

| Well, that's still a reason to party. Awesome, if I find 10 wands of invisibility in the next version, I know what to do. 8) |
